One of the most interesting issues raised by computer games, hypertext and computer interfaces is that of their relation to narratives. Narratology, following semiotics as general science of signs, proposes to consider all media as special kinds of narrative, whereas media theory tends to underscore the specificity of each medium, questioning, thus, the thesis that all media generate narratives or can be understood on the basis of semiotic models leaning on linguistics. The aim of this research project is to discuss both the position of narratologists and of media theorists in order to clarify the nature of different new media. At the time we are discussing the nature of digital cinema and of computer games.
